From her Sea Salt, Anglesey collection, 2023. A collaboration with restaurant ‘Sosban & the Old Butchers’, Anglesey and Sea Salt makers Halen Môn. A collection of work developing glazes from the seaweed, mussel shells and the chalk residue produced from washing Halen Môn’s sea salt. The project began during Chloé’s Masters at the Royal College of Art in 2019.

By Chloé Rosetta Bell
Dimensions: H; 29cm, ø25cm
Materials: A blend of stoneware and wild clay from the landslip below Chloe’s studio and is finished with three glazes. The first glaze uses a chalky residue, a byproduct of washing Halen Môn’s beautiful salt flakes. The brine that the sea salt is washed in is dehydrated and turned into a concentrated paste. The second is a seaweed ash glaze using seaweed from the Menai Strait from which Halen Môn source its salt water. The third is a mussel shell matte glaze made from shells that are washed onto the beach after filtering the saltwater. Finished with brass wrapped in seaweed and salt chalk residue.
Techniques:  All pieces are hand-thrown and hand-forged.
Care: Wash ceramic by hand with warm water, the brass will age over time due to the salt in the residue and seaweed. Gently brush with wire wool, wash with warm water and dry thoroughly.
