"WHITE STRIPES OF VARYING WIDTHS AND PATTERNS FORM THE BODY OF MY VESSELS: EACH LINE IS A SEPARATE PIECE OF GLASS (CALLED A CANE) THAT I JOIN WITH OTHER PIECES & FUSE TOGETHER TO FORM A CONTINUOUS SURFACE. AS I BLOW THE GLASS THE PATTERNS STRETCH REFLECTING SOMETHING OF THE HOT GLASS PROCESS."
Scott Benefield is based on an old farm on the rugged north Antrim coast just outside of the village of Ballintoy in Northern Ireland. Benefield uses traditional offhand glassblowing techniques. Tool marks found near the lip of his pieces along with the punty mark on the bottom of each piece, are indicative of the hands of the maker.
