Déjeuner du Matin - A solo show   "This exhibition takes its title from Jacques Prévert’s poem Déjeuner du Matin (Breakfast). The works themselves are tableware intended for the rituals of breakfast, but the title carries another meaning.    I have long admired Prévert’s poetry. In Déjeuner du Matin, there is almost no psychological description. Instead, the poem simply records a sequence of ordinary actions: coffee is poured, a cigarette is lit, a raincoat is put on, someone leaves. Yet through these quiet observations, profound emotion emerges. Nothing is explained, and nothing dramatic happens, but something deeply human is felt.    I find the same quality in the novels of Marguerite Duras, where emotional states are rarely described directly, but are revealed through atmosphere, gesture and the passing of time. Some European films are often criticised as films "in which nothing happens." We look forward to the first UK exhibition by South Korean artist Hongjun Park, whose practice is rooted in the meditative process of hand-carving wood.  Working primarily with tea-ware and tableware, he creates pieces designed to be used, where function and form are held in balance. Guided by aesthetics of restraint and simplicity, each carved surface records a gradual, human pace of making. We are pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition by Japanese sculptor Shinji Matsuo. Working across ceramic, wood and oil pastel, Matsuo explores the relationship between space and material. Drawing inspiration from ancient vessels, he reimagines the pot not as a functional container, but as a contemplative structure: a “vessel of thought.” His approach shifts with each medium: drawing is intuitive, woodworking structured, ceramics balanced between the two. A daily ritual at his studio kamidana (a traditional Japanese altar) - refreshing water and tending a single flower - grounds his different making processes.   "Born in 1985. I have been a self-taught painter since childhood. My deep interest in outsider art led me to work as a support worker for several years, a period during which I also acquired woodworking skills.My transition to ceramics began while working as an antique dealer. Surrounded by Japanese pottery from various eras, I found myself increasingly fascinated by their history and form. This collection reflects Chloé's connection to coastal landscape and material. Soft glazes in gentle greens and blues echo tidal shallows, chalk shoreline and sea-worn vegetation. The interaction between glaze, clay, and residual shell creates moments of delicate unpredictability - a peaceful chaos suspended within calm surfaces. Developed during a year of new motherhood, the flower vessels are shaped to hold water that sustains blooms, allowing water to become a lens through which plants are viewed and reimagined. Each piece becomes a sensory reflection of place, care and the subtle transformation of how we see.     "This past year I was thinking about new life, and how the experience of mothering impacts the way you see the world. When people, animals, and nature are in motion with a small being discovering it for the first time, the world appears different than it did before. The process of creating these flower vessels felt very connected to that - the water became a lens to view an impression of plants, altered from how we see them in life. Shaping objects to contain and display water that sustains the blooms, the vessel themselves became amplified and detailed; the glaze surface heightened. A step from this in the home, to other small notices outside - the eye roaming for a plant’s flowering, gentle rain, kneeling on soft earth to examine flowers more closely, pushing aside the tangle of leaves. Opening November 13th 2025, Flow Gallery is pleased to announce a solo show by JaeJun Lee. JaeJun is a Korean ceramic artist now based in Cardiff. Working in porcelain, he finds beauty in the line of a simple form. The discipline of his making finds balance through the element of chance in his glazing - a quality that is explored in this new collection for Flow. “It’s the balance between intention and surprise that keeps the work alive for me.”  The title, Ruach, meaning breath or spirit, reflects this life that emerges through making. Join us to experience the serene stillness of his work at Flow.   ARTIST STATEMENT  It was one Sunday last year. I was sitting in church, listening to the pastor’s sermon. He spoke about the moment in Genesis when God breathes life into His creation, and introduced the Hebrew word ruach — breath, wind, spirit.  “Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.”  Omnipotence, of course, belongs to God alone. And yet, the moment I heard those words, a deep resonance stirred within my heart. To form something from the earth, to give it shape with my hands, and through fire to transform it — is this not, in some way, a kind of breath-giving too?  I held on to that word — ruach — quietly, carefully. It became a thread running through my practice, and I knew it would become the title of this exhibition at Flow Gallery.    Working with clay is, for me, an act of devotion. Each vessel is shaped with the same care, attention, and love — yet each emerges from the fire differently. Unexpected textures, colours, and forms… At times, they emerge beyond my intentions, as if guided by a will of their own. At times, it feels as though they carry a will of their own, choosing what they want to become.    VIEW THE COLLECTION

A solo exhibition by Korean ceramic artist Kwak Kyung-tae. Kwak works exclusivley in 옹기 (Onggi) and 분청 (Buncheong), and his expressive vessels are shaped by the tacit knowledge that comes from a lifetime of working with clay.

Flow’s stand for Collect 2025 focuses on the ‘Spirit of Things’. The theme expresses how hand-crafted objects are imbued with ‘spirit’ – they evidence the process of their maker and come alive through our sensorial encounter with materials. The simple pleasure of experiencing this spirit, particularly in ‘everyday things’, is central to the ethos of Japanese craft. Our stand will explore how craft from Japan and beyond finds beauty in simplicity, to achieve balance and serenity through the objects around us. ‘Light Embodied’, a new Solo Show of blown glass vessels by Edmond Byrne.

To mark our silver anniversary, artist metalsmith Adi Toch has created a special showcase of silver vessels and objects.

‘Making Memories’, our Anniversary Exhibition, will celebrate the gallery’s 25th year with a special group show featuring 20 artists creating works around the theme of memory.

‘Tales of Boseong’, a new show by Seong-Il Hong and Hye-Jin Lee, of ceramic teaware from the tea-growing Boseong region of South Korea.

Michèle Oberdieck creates hand-blown glass vessels that explore the fluidity of form and the possibilities of colour. Inspired by biomorphic shapes found in plant growth and decay, her pieces capture the transformations of nature in glass.

Akiko Hirai’s Solo Show “Rin-ne Tensho 輪廻転生” at Flow Gallery, featuring a new collection of work.

Shannon Clegg creates botanical sculptures using a unique hand-moulding technique and fresh-cut flowers, such as Statice and Kangaroo Paw. She reimagines the traditional craft process of flower pressing.

Flow is delighted to present a solo exhibition by the Finnish ceramic artist Kati Tuominen-Niittylä. Her vessels combine multiple techniques alternating between wheel-throwing, casting, and hand-building evoking archetypal silhouettes reminiscent of functional vessels such as buckets and basketry.
