Flow is delighted to be organising our second site-specific exhibition in the beautiful St Peters Church, Cambridge. The church neighbours Kettles Yard, a favourite place of ours that has always inspired the Gallery. The show will run alongside a solo show of Jennifer Lee curated by Sarah Griffin and organised by Kettles Yard.
Functional porcelain vessels, jugs, bowls, teapots and cups will be placed in this Saxon church alongside textile embroideries of tableware. Flow was inspired to bring together this exhibition titled ‘Vessels of Influence’ after reading the inspirational book by Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere. Here Nicole discusses the birthplace of Chinese and Japanese porcelain; its influx into European society during the 16th and 17th Centuries and how it became a status symbol of power and influence.
We will be showing a number of Japanese, Korean and Chinese artists in the show as well as makers from Europe, all working in porcelain. Exhibiting artists are Derek Wilson, Yuta Segawa, Jayjun Lee, Sun Kim, Alison Gautrey, Akiko Hirai, Hyu Jin Jo, Rebecca Harvey, Kiho Kang, Vezzini & Chen, Emily Jo Gibbs, Carina Ciscato, Masamichi Yoshikawa and Benben Li.
